Operators, Networks, Platforms
Add high-margin software to the infrastructure and customer base you already have.
Federated Core Platform is for hosting companies, fiber networks, coworking and workshare companies, online communities, and large organizations that want to control the SaaS offered within their own operational boundaries. Open source SaaS now meets or exceeds the capabilities of proprietary SaaS, but packaging it, running it, and supporting it for many customers is a large job. Federated Core Platform does that work for you, at a price designed to leave you a healthy margin, and partners can be up and running in a matter of weeks.
The aim is simple: to give you the software, tools, and services to earn new revenue from what you already have, including your hardware, data centers, network capacity, and existing customers.
Why operators add software
Selling only VMs, rack space, or bandwidth means competing mostly on price. Software changes the conversation. A customer who buys a bundle of email, file sharing, video meetings, and CRM from you is buying an outcome, not a commodity, and is more likely to stay.
The detailed pages show what this looks like in practice, with worked examples:
- Hosting Providers: software sold alongside VMs and cloud services, including DevOps and PaaS offerings.
- Fiber Networks: software bundles sold alongside business and residential broadband.
How it works
- Your customer buys from you. They choose individual applications or bundles in your existing store or eCommerce system, at prices you set.
- Your system calls ours. Purchases, changes, and cancellations are API calls to the Federated Computer platform, so you don’t have to build provisioning yourself.
- The software is deployed. Federated Computer installs it on its own infrastructure or on yours, depending on the arrangement you choose.
- Federated Computer keeps it running. Updates, security patches, monitoring, and backups are handled for you. Backups are stored with Backblaze B2.
- Your customers get support. Questions about using the software can be routed to Federated Computer, through your support system or Federated’s.
Where the software runs
You can choose either option, or use both for different customer groups:
- On Federated Computer infrastructure. Available in the US, EU, Singapore, Africa, and Australia. Nothing extra to operate.
- On your infrastructure. Cores run on your VMs, hardware, or private cloud, so you also capture the infrastructure revenue. Federated Computer manages the software over the API.
Partnership levels
Operator partnerships come in four levels: On Premise, Marketing-Assist, Customer-Support, and Entry. Each level has a monthly fee and a share of software revenue that you keep. Higher levels add customized bundles, on-premises installation, and more hands-on marketing and sales support. Current details are on the Hosting Providers and Fiber Networks pages.
A typical engagement
- Scoping sessions. Federated Computer works with you to think through your product offering, your go-to-market plan, and how your customers will be supported.
- Bundle design. Together you choose which applications to offer, how to group them, and how to price them for your market.
- Integration. Your eCommerce and support systems are connected to the platform through the API.
- Launch. Federated Computer helps prepare campaigns and sales materials and can join sales calls.
- Ongoing operation. Federated Computer runs, updates, and monitors the software while you sell and manage the customer relationship.
